If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this weekend, you don’t have to travel far. One of Middletown’s biggest events of the entire year takes over downtown Saturday, plus we’ve found a few other family-friendly options worth considering around northern Delaware.

This one is a no-brainer.
The Olde-Tyme Peach Festival returns to Middletown Saturday and is expected to bring approximately 27,000 people downtown.
The day kicks off at 8:45 AM with the annual Peach Parade on Broad Street, followed by a full day of activities throughout downtown.

Want to earn those peach cobbler calories before the festival even begins?
Middletown’s longest-running 5K takes place Saturday morning immediately before the Peach Festival.
The race includes a 13-and-under age group, so families with kids who enjoy running can participate together before heading over to the parade.

If you’re looking for something low-key Friday night before the craziness of Peach Festival Saturday, the Beer Garden at Whitehall remains one of our favorite local family hangouts.
The Beer Garden hosts live music on Friday and Saturday nights, rotating Delaware food trucks, cornhole and plenty of outdoor space.
Best of all for parents, it’s family-friendly, so you can grab a craft beer, cocktail or glass of wine while the kids have room to play nearby.

Looking for an indoor option this weekend?
OperaDelaware’s Summer Rock Opera features a cast of young performers presenting Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The show runs approximately 90 minutes with one intermission and OperaDelaware specifically identifies the production as family friendly.
This could be an especially good Sunday afternoon option if you’ve already spent Saturday outside at the Peach Festival.

🦎 Creature Features at the Brandywine Zoo

Make your regular zoo trip a little more interesting.
During Creature Features, a zoo educator introduces families to one of the zoo’s scaled, furry or prickly animal ambassadors. Kids can see the animal up close, ask questions and learn more about it.
The featured animal changes each time, so there’s a little bit of a surprise involved.
The program is included with regular zoo admission.

Sunday: Keep it easy. Head to the Brandywine Zoo for Creature Features or grab tickets to the 2:00 PM performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat if the weather isn’t cooperating.
